Purpose of the regulation

Under Article 1 of Law No. 6698, the purpose is to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals — particularly the privacy of personal life — in the processing of personal data, and to set out the obligations, principles and procedures to be followed by natural and legal persons who process personal data.

Legal basis of the notice

Pursuant to Article 10 of Law No. 6698, when personal data is collected, the data controller or the person authorized by it is obliged to inform the relevant persons about the following:

• The identity of the data controller and its representative, if any,
• The purposes for which the personal data will be processed,
• To whom and for what purposes the processed personal data may be transferred,
• The method and legal basis of collecting personal data,
• Other rights listed in Article 11.

What does processing of personal data mean?

Under Article 2/(e) of Law No. 6698, processing of personal data is defined as any operation performed on data such as obtaining, recording, storing, preserving, altering, rearranging, disclosing, transferring, taking over, making available, classifying or preventing the use of personal data, whether by fully or partially automated means or by non-automated means provided it forms part of a data recording system.

Rights of the data subject

Pursuant to Article 11 of Law No. 6698, you may submit your requests regarding your personal data to the data controller in writing, together with documents identifying you and a petition containing your request, or by e-mail.
